Who we are

Scene Notes is published by TOM Communications Ltd, Kings Hill, Kent, United Kingdom. This policy covers the app; these web pages sit on tomcomm.co.uk, which has its own privacy policy.

The short version

Everything stays on your iPad. There is no account and no sign-in, no analytics, no crash reporting, no advertising and no tracking, and nothing is sent to TOMCOMM or to anyone else. The only network traffic the app creates is to your own console on your own local network, and to Apple when you subscribe.

What the app stores, and where

Scene Notes keeps the following on your iPad, in the app's own storage:

• Your shows: scene numbers and names, the notes you write for them, and the running orders you build.
• The network address and port of the console each show connects to.
• Your settings, such as layout, text size and whether the screen stays awake.

A copy of every show is also written as a .sn file into the Files app, under On My iPad, Scene Notes, Rivage, so you can back it up or move it yourself. These files are only ever read back if you choose to import one.

Because this data lives on the device, it is included in whatever backup your iPad makes, whether to iCloud or to a computer. That backup is governed by Apple's privacy policy and your own iPad settings, not by us. Deleting the app deletes the app's storage; the copies in the Files app are yours and stay until you delete them.

Network connections the app makes

Scene Notes opens exactly two kinds of network connection:

• To your console. When you press Connect, the app opens a connection over your local network to the address you entered, on the console's remote-control port (49280). It reads which scene is current, the scene names and the console's own scene comments. The Port Check button opens a second, momentary connection to the same address to see whether anything answers. Both are read-only: the app never sends a recall or changes a setting. iPadOS asks for Local Network permission the first time; without it the app cannot reach the console. Nothing from this connection is sent anywhere else.
• To Apple. Subscriptions are handled by Apple's App Store using StoreKit. The app asks Apple whether your subscription is active and shows you Apple's prices. Payment happens entirely inside Apple's App Store: the app never sees your card details, and we do not receive your name, payment details or Apple ID. Apple's handling of that data is described in Apple's privacy policy.

The app makes no other connections. It does not contact our servers, because it has none. Links in the app to tomcomm.co.uk open in Safari, where the website's privacy policy applies.

What leaves your iPad

Only what you send. Export, Backup and the share sheet produce a .sn file containing that show's scenes, notes, running orders and console address. The Diagnostics page can share a transcript of the console conversation, which includes the console's address and model and your scene names, for sending to us when something will not connect. Where either goes, whether AirDrop, email, a cloud drive or another app, is your choice and is covered by that service's policy. If you email us about a problem, we use what you send only to help you, and we keep it no longer than we need to.

App Store privacy label

On the App Store, Scene Notes is listed as Data Not Collected. The app declares no tracking and no collected data types in its privacy manifest.

Children

The app is a professional tool for sound engineers and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone, of any age.

Your rights

Under UK GDPR you have the right to access, correct and delete personal data an organisation holds about you. We hold none from the app. Your data is on your iPad, under your control; to delete it, delete the app and any .sn files you kept. If you have emailed us and want that correspondence removed, ask at hello@tomcomm.co.uk. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.

Changes to this policy

If a future version of an app changes what it stores or connects to, this page will be updated first and the date below will change. Anything that involved collecting data would be a new policy, not a quiet edit to this one.
