Delivering Comms for a Major UK Arena Tour
A look behind the scenes at how TOMCOMM. provided full-duplex intercom systems across 14 arena dates, keeping production, lighting, cameras, and security connected every night.
When we were approached to provide communications for a 14-date UK arena tour, we knew the brief would demand reliability, scalability, and speed of deployment above all else.
The production required full-duplex intercom coverage across multiple departments — production management, lighting, cameras, audio, security, and talent liaison — all operating simultaneously across venues ranging from 10,000 to 20,000 capacity.
We deployed our Riedel Bolero wireless beltpack system alongside Artist matrices, providing crystal-clear audio across every department. Each venue was configured identically, meaning crew could walk into any arena and know exactly how the system worked from the first soundcheck.
The key challenge was scale. With over 30 beltpacks active at any given time, antenna coverage had to be precise. We positioned Bolero antennas at FOH, on stage, backstage, and at the loading dock to ensure seamless roaming coverage throughout the venue.
Every system was pre-built in our workshop, tested, and rack-mounted for fast deployment. Load-in to comms-ready took under 45 minutes at every venue.
This project demonstrated exactly why full-duplex communication matters in live production. When 30+ people need to talk simultaneously — and every second counts — push-to-talk simply isn't an option.
